NEW FINISH LOCATION
On the night time recon from Bakers Hill to Northam we found the Avon Bridge Hotel to be not the best potential finish location with loud music and happy patrons in the beer garden. The decision has been made to change the location of the finish to the Northam Motel on John St. For one thing, it's about 400 metres shorter in distance...plus it will be a whole lot quieter.
The motel is not exactly the Hilton, but the rooms seem clean enough if you are planning to stay the night there after the run. Cost is around $90 for a double. The owner Ong has agreed to let us and support crew use his dining room while we wait for runners to arrive. I have booked a room, and those who are planning to travel back to Perth straight after the race, are welcome to have a shower there. If you want to contact the Motel, the phone number is 08 9622 1755; tell them you're running the ultra and I'm sure they'll look after you.. One last thing...Ong doesn't normally do meals on a Sunday night, but if there's enough interest (10 people or more), he'll open up the kitchen for us.

I know this is a fat ass event, and you can do whatever you please, however I would be interested on your thoughts of using pacers. I know a lot of the other ultras allow for pacers to assist a runner, and this is seen as normal. Some only allow pacers after a certain distance.
What do we think? Personally I wouldn't mind having someone run with me for the last 30k or so.

A couple of things; Firstly you have done so much work and put in a lot of time into this so I reckon you can do whatever you like. I am really glad you have got this up and running and am very grateful for being allowed to participate. That being said I think that whatever gets more people running and adds enjoyment to the day should be fine. As I understand it AURA is looking to sanction this event as of next year and there will be plenty of time to worry about technicalities and rules then. As far as I'm concerned pacers, crews, whatever is fine. Hell, it's unofficial and there is nothing riding on the outcome. If a pacer is going to make the first ever Kep more enjoyable or memorable for you then go for it. My 2c

Not running this one, but my few experiences say pacers towards the end are good. I think one of the key things would be just making sure they weren't getting in the way of actual racers in a crowded field - not an issue at Kep ;D
Another thing to contemplate for the "officially minded" would be muling, which I've encountered as a cause of disqualification - that is, your pacer can't carry your gear for you.
I think pacers also provide a bonus of a safety net around your long runners - good to know your runners out on a course have someone with them whose body isn't shattered and sleep deprived, ready to do a Dean Karno and run sleeping into the middle of traffic.

Thanks Bernadette. I haven't had any negative feedback re this, and Young Phil has let me know he will have Graham Penter joining him for the last 20km or so, so it looks like if you would like a pacer, go for it.
