www.bom.gov.au/products/IDW12300.shtmlis saying 32 and chance of rain maybe... better than 39 or 35 thats for sure... looking good...north easterly or north westerly winds would be good too to keep the haze away if its still around -7000 hectares burnt now... internet.fesa.wa.gov.au/mediareleases/Pages/MediaRelease.aspx?ItemId=135Stevo your posts have been entertaining, and as I said b4 be sad if you are not there, and while I feel some empathy with what you are saying, i think in general the way 6 inch has gone this year still seems to be a big step forward, for the event in particular, and trail running in general...so for that reason alone (and other reasons (for example the hard yards the organisers have put in) plus my emotional attachment to this race and other reasons I feel compelled to support it. I'm hoping all hatchets can be buried, and we can all move forward together on this, and I think with discussion and inclusion, good communication a lot of the issues can be easily sorted hopefully. Its tough to find a good balance between satisfying all the major stake-holders, preserving the good "out there" characteristics of this event, dealing with issues of liability, and safety, which needs to be taken seriously , but not overregulating in a nanny state =ish way too much...am sure thats a learning experience for the organisers, and hopefully they can learn from their mistakes, recognise the things that could be improvements, and build on the massive positives that have come about in the last few weeks, which IMO is what we need to focus on advancing. as long as good advancement is occurring we should support that...I can see with your local and international experience, and what you and Sal brought to 6 inch last year plus at the 40 miler, that your thoughts should be respected and considered very carefully by any trail running power brokers... however change can be a gopod thing, and give and take, from both sides is needed here, and hopefully in 2010 it will be an event you are more happy with...obviously 6 foot and other races are ones that the organisers should look at for ideas...at least the organisers are dinkum trail runners, not event organisers with no running experience like some other big events...exciting times, and 2010 will hopefully see the organisers under less time pressures in the lead up to the event. In the meantime I think we should be a part of it, for one thing its easier to have relevant input if you are experience the new regime as one of the entrants or helpers... Time to run on, and move on with the times...run on!

The joys of politics and sport! Steve love your comments and all I can say is long live the traditional fatass trail running and runs we did of the past. People dont seem to know you to well if they think this will embrass you and stop you from choosing to run any of the events in the future. I'm still laughing on that one! Of course you are allowed to run on the Mudda Bindi anytime as it is a public trail and open for access to anyone. Bottom line people is to enjoy all types and needs for running, get on with the actual act of running and leave the power games to other sports. Cheers

Steve First of all I haven't responded to your reply because I haven't received it as yet. Perhaps if we had known about your child care arrangements we could have changed the proposed dates for you. I still count 10 fat-ass races. 4x 6inch, 2x MB 100K, 3x Dwellingup 100miler and 1x Kep. Courage to show up in the face of potential embarrassment is what I meant and if you choose to show that and run at any fat-ass runs or official races in future you will be welcome. Bare in mind that our next fat-ass race will be the Dwellingup 100 miler on the October Long weekend. Time restrictions prevent as lengthy discussion as you are able to undertake. Dave

DISCLAIMER: The following post is a private comment and should in no way be interpreted as the views - in part or in full - of the Race Committee.
Steve,
Have I missed something? What exactly is the issue? You mention that you have no issue with the rule in question yet have gone out of your way to 'stir the pot' regarding the race. Just want some clarification.
Can I just mention about the FA runs referred to in the emails posted (on both sides). The fundamental problem with FA trail runs is that they can be done anywhere, at anytime and the by-product of this is small numbers. Why are they small? Heaps of reasons - Time/Date doesn't suit, run distance is too far/short, pace does not suit (too fast/slow), no support, clashes with other races/runs, family commitments etc. I'm not bagging FA Trail runs at all, I would run well over 1500km every year in the Perth Hills sometimes with others sometime without. They will always continue but my gosh we can't call them 'races,' they are just long runs with others (or without), so no-one can get upset when people don't show up to an advertised trail run. I could post now that I plan on doing 50-60k trail runs every Saturday next year at 5min/km and I know I wouldn't get many takers. Why? cause it wouldn't suit most people that's just the way it is, nothing to get upset about.
I can only hope that all this doesn't detract from the runners who will be lining at the base of Goldmine Hill up on Sunday ready to take on (IMHO) the toughest marathon in WA. Good luck to everyone for the 'rest' of the week and I'll see you @ 4am Sunday.

We now have 16 officially registered runners for the 46K marathon and still just 3 for the 11K. With the prizes that have been donated it looks as if we have something for everyone unless there is a flourish of late entries. You can check your status by going to www.6inchtrailmarathon.comWeather forecast is for 32C which will make it comparable with the first race but not as hot as the 2nd edition. Will still be about 10C warmer than last year though so runners will need different hydration strategies.

A more detailed weather report for Dwellingup Sunday: Temp 17-31 Humidity (9am) 63% Chance of rain 5% (Likely amount less than 1mm) UV- Extreme Wind 9am SE at 16km/h
The is a 70% chance of rain both Friday and Saturday in Dwellingup with a likely amount of 1-5mm so hopefully the fires will be out. Strong winds especially the NNE Saturday should hopefully blow any lingering smoke away.

Dave and Nathan and anyone else who's interested,
Dave; I replied to your PM on Cool Running yesterday afternoon. You win, yes including this years 6" there are 10 and I forgot about MB100km last year, for my shocking maths and poor memory I apologise. I shall now crawl back into the corner I have painted myself into humbled, embarrassed, forlorn and outcast, for the time being at least. Unfortunately on the long weekend in October that happens to be in September, I'll be in Egypt.
Shame about those time restrictions.... Nathan,
I'm not sure what you missed if anything at all. Read my post and you’ll get the clarification you seek …”...but rather the way it was raised and handled. I doubt you have been given a true and accurate account of the emails and telephone communication that took place.” The words condescending and patronizing come to mind. Hmmm. I haven’t gone out of my way at all but yes, a pot may have been stirred and some fun had, but if people can’t laugh at themselves then perhaps it is they who have been painted into a corner, a corner of self importance and pomposity. I never once claimed to be upset that no one showed up to any of the runs Sal, Mark and I did and I don’t see the fact that FA runs can be done anywhere, at anytime, with small fields as a problem, quite the contrary. Also I never claimed that they were races. We were just letting people know what we were up to and anyone was welcome to join us. Isn't that what the forum is for? Again, I never claimed that I was upset that no one joined us but thank you for enlightening me on the reasons FA races have small turn outs and why people may choose not to run with you or others, very insightful.
TB you loose cannon you, thanks for your kind words and good luck on Sunday. I agree with most of what you have to say on this issue. Like wise Mark, get them knees sorted and get back on the trail, without the bike occasionally!
So does this epic tail of the trail end here? We'll have to wait and see. It's a shame thats those that felt offended by my rambling diatribes could not see the funny side or at least talk to me about it, either via the forum, PM or the good old fashioned telephone, most of you have my number and email address. Good luck and best wishes to all involved in 6" this weekend I hope you all win and congratulations to the organizing committee for achieving what I presume they had hoped to. Try laughing lots, I was when I posted my thoughts here and on CR. There was never any malice in any thing I said. Run on Kids!
Funny thing though, 6" 2008, Fat Ass, 20 Entrants, 4 from Overseas and two from over east. Hmmmm.

I think you'll find the runners from overseas and over east were here on holiday and took the opportunity to have a nice trail run on their journey. In terms of local runners (the core of the event) numbers have increased this year, albeit only slightly and many first timers are taking the challenge.
Regarding the FA trail runs - it seemed to me that you were BOTH having a go at each other for not supporting each others runs. If I misinterpreted then I apologise.

This is the funniest thing you've said in the whole debate.
I think Stevo that we must have mis-interpreted your removal of yourself from the race and subsequent relinquishing of your accomodation as a sign you were upset with the race committee.

Hi all,
I'm looking at being a late entrant, seem to have recovered enough from minor illness/injuries to have a go.
Is anyone planning on meeting at the finish line at 0345 or so to car pool to the start line?
Epi/Craig

Top day - even with my 2 flat tyres as the last two runners reached th 39 km mark!!!
Mark the Dwellingup Tow Truck Driver got me out of the bush to Scarp Road and dropped me off at Dwellingup where Dave Kennedy assisted with his mobile as Optus do not cover Dwellingup. A call to Peel Districts Towing (Shane 0417 892 009) organised a truck to come and get me from Scarp Road and RobAdams gave me a lift back to my Jeep Cherokee (1996 Sports model). For a small fee I was able to leave my Jeep locked at Peel Districts Towing and they dropped it at the Tyre shop on Monday morning. Tyre Plus - Mandurah (9586 1515) fixed my 4x4 up with new tyres and a compresser for next time I need air in my tyres.
Thanks to all who assisted me.
Lessons learnt: reverse out of tight tracks rather than looking for a turning point. watch for roadside logs when using 4x4 - have two spares, carry an air compresser and have a tyre spanner that fits.
