Just a quick message as I haven't log on for sometime Congrats to all who have made this race become what its has. Dave/ Nate and all the others who have pitched in to get the event offical well done for you timeless efforts to finally get it done! I have just visited the website for the first time to see my picture on there, brings back great memories of our runs in the early days. Good luck to all who chose to take the 6' on for the first time and enjoy for all those who have run all of the runs. Wish I could still be out there running with you all. Cheers Mark B

Are any other latecomers keen to do a last recon run early this coming Sunday? I'm planning to do the first 26-27km from the start point up to Scarp Rd at the western end of the conveyor belt. We will need a car at each end. Please post or send a PM if you're interested.

Just one week to go. Long range forecast is pointing towards a hot day. The Saturday has been forecast with a max of 37 degrees, so Sunday morning is likely to be very warm. Pack the drinks kids.

for sure have heaps of drinks on hand...maybe a hose or a sprinkler at the finish???, but at least 6 inch has lots of shady trees...and due to the wisdom of selecting an 0430 start the heat shouldnt start to bite too much until about 0930 onwards, so the first 5 hours should be ok...

'Twas the week before six inch, a new sponsor announced. For the signed and paid entrants, some notes back no doubt. If progress continues in this staggereing way, will the number of sponsors lead runners one day? For how many races, in post GEC days, have a 2:1 ratio yet still ask entrants to pay?

I feel I must share with you this snippet of information that has come my way. I'm not at liberty to reveal my source, suffice to say that they are from deep within the inner sanctom of The Lords (and Ladies, sorry Sisters I forgot you previously) of The Trail. This is an extract of a minuted meeting that took place over the weekend...
"Now that we have seen off the insidious scourge of unofficial pacers we must turn our sights to the highly contentious issue of "Trail Gating". We need to ensure that no runner gains any unfair advantage by way of drafting. Any runner or officially registered pacer (although this is still a grey area) caught within 2meters of another will be deemed to be drafting. If a runner wishes to pass another they must complete the overtaking within the space of 15meters, or they will also be deemed to have drafted. Punishment for a first offence will be as follows; The removal of ones shoes and socks followed by a handstand lasting no less than 30 seconds before the athlete can re enter the race. Following offences will incur the removal of all clothing and an additional 30 second increment of handstand time per offence...." This will be made clear to runners at the race briefing..But comrades to be for warned is to be for armed...I feel it my civic duty to let you all know...stay posted for further breaking news..

Sorry all about the length of this post but in the interests of truth and transparency I want it out there. The following is a copy of an email I received today and my response. I left out the names except mine...oops! so as not to invade any privacy.. I have aired my views in an open forum, singled out no one and have no regrets. My question at the end has had no response.
Gday Steve Sorry to hear you're so upset about such a trivial issue. I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of putting together any rules for the website or entry form but the rules ***** has put up are just standard rules you would find at any race including the marathon club. Hey I'm a big fan of fat-ass races as well but it's not as if you've gone out of your way to support these in the past, running 2 out of about 10 since we first met. So really you are left painting yourself into a corner which you will never have the courage to leave and come and run with us again. So for us that is a small loss (though a loss never-the-less as I considered your a friend and kindred spirit) but for you a bigger loss as trail running will eventually expand here as it has overseas and interstate and you will be stuck on the outer due to the embarrassment you will feel if you ever show up to one of races. All the best ****
Hello ****,
I’m not upset at all, trivial issue’s or not I have no problem with the Rules or Official approval I’m just airing an alternate and tongue in cheek point of view. I have singled no one out and my postings have been quite obviously, or so I thought, light hearted and flippant. As I mentioned on one post…”lets not take ourselves too seriously…” Some one or some people quite obviously are. The provocation or inspiration that initiated I disagreeault on the key board was not so much the “Pacing Rule” but rather the way it was raised and handled. I doubt you have been given a true and accurate account of the emails and telephone communication that took place.
As for not supporting races in the past…we first met at about 4.30am one dark and cold winters morning in 2007 at the start of the Mundaring to Jarrahdale 100km. A great day out and Fat Ass in the extreme. Following that I organised the Coastal Plains Trail run where you turned up to support but not run due to injury, which was great. Sal and I also advertised the fact that we’d be running overnight on the Bib in May of that year and anyone was welcome. Not long after this Sal and I headed overseas. I was forced to miss both Waterous and 6” later that year as I only have my kids every second weekend and both events happened to fall on those weekends.. 2008 saw Sal and I training for Gobi, in about May Sal, Mark and I advertised the fact that we would be running the 65km Waterous loop, no one else saw fit to join us, granted it was not put out there as a Fat Ass event but the three of us had a great day out. Just before we headed off to China we posted on the forum that the three of us would be running a 30km loop from Kalamunda National Park, again no takers but again not posted as Fat Ass, however some weeks later, Nate, Bernadette and Bully joined the three of us out on the same trail. Upon returning from China I didn’t feel up to either the long or short version of Waterous but it also fell again on the weekend I had my kids. I however fronted for 6” something I had long looked forward too and enjoyed the whole event greatly. Early 2009 saw us training for Namibia, we again posted any long trail runs we would be doing and it was only on the 30km Kalamunda loop that we were joined. Although most of these runs were not FA or Official races it shows that I have been active in the trail running scene both running and organising. I was unable to run KEP as I was overseas and as mentioned elsewhere we had booked and paid for accommodation in Dwellingup this weekend. I make it 8 Races since we met, and I’ve run 3 including organising the Coastal Plains Trail in 07.
Don’t tell me that I have not supported your events and don’t question my courage on this or any other matter and don’t suggest I’ll be embarrassed about anything, you clearly don’t know me well enough to make those judgements. I may be stuck on the outer as you suggest but as I said in an earlier post….The view from the periphery is clouded and hazy but with sweat in my eye and dirt on my shoe I will survive, as long as I trails to run I know that I'm alive, my pack upon my back and Sal my pacer by my side, I can run! oh I can run! The trails are long and they are free, the Dirt Side's an anathema becoming squeaky clean! The High Lords of the trail deem it fit to exclude me yet there upon their website is my face for all to see! Oh yes it's Scrooge! there on each page, my sweaty ugly grimmace must be filling them with rage!
It is a shame you seem to no longer consider me a friend or kindred spirit, I don’t bare grudges and have kept my postings impersonal, I am indeed only a small loss but I don’t feel lost..
Speaking of courage I’m sure you wont mind me posting this on the forum will you?
Cheers
Mate
Steve
