This Wed the 26th I'm thinking of running in Walyunga Nat'l Park. Never been. May go in the arvo, but open to options if I might get company along. I got a map online of the trails. Anyone know if there are any hills on those trails?

Walyunga Natl Park trail run report - I took myself on a solo trip out to Walyunga on Wednesday. Started later than I originally planned, but that allowed for more crippling heat training (read: practice at swearing at the tops of leg-busting hills). No one I chatted with prior to going out knew anything about this park or even that it existed...so, if you're one of those:
Pros: gorgeous setting; roos galore - they even pose; Avon/Swan River runs along one trail and would make a great leg-soaking place at the end of long runs; lung and leg busting hills (one climb to the firetower was about 240 mtrs gain over a km); bbq facilities and toilets at the carparks; great views of the Swan Hills; less than 1 hr from main Perth area; wide tracks make for very snake-friendly running; micro-breweries nearby (West Swan Rd) allowing for easy access to the essential pub stop apres run.
Cons: Hard to come up with any. $10 park entry fee, although there were no envelopes there and strict instructions not to pay if there were no envelopes, so, I was able to enjoy it for free. Little shade for summer running - in parts by the river, but no shade along the majority of trails, as they are wide tracks - a killer in the heat (but you can find shady bits to stand in to cool down for a moment when needed).

Time to wake up this thread again Rob and I have set ourselves up with a midweek run and hope to attract some others to join us. For the month of February, we'll be doing Wednesday night runs after work - meeting around 6:30 PM, depending on location and people's work schedule. After February, I believe we'll switch to Tuesday nights and hope this will work for some others to join us, too. We're planning to do a beach run every second week, alternating with a bush run not too far out of town. The runs will likely be in the 12k range. I'll throw it out there that we start on Wed Feb 4 with a beach run and then the following week we'll do a bush run and keep the pattern going.

I seem to be getting callcentre shifts every thursday and most tuesdays, but been free most wednesday nights so I will try and come for some of the bush runs, maybe even a beach run in February...am moving house 3rd/4th Feb so may not be able to make it that week, but depends how well our move goes, I may be up for it on the 4th, if the move is progressing smoothly...

So, for Wed Feb 4, Rob and I are meeting at City Beach for about 12k in the sand (6k north, then back). If you'd like to join us, meet on the beach under the restaurant - back where the toilets and outdoor showerheads are (I believe the restaurant is called Oceanus).
6:30 PM start, unless we hear someone needs a bit more time coming from work.

sounds like fun, work has decided to give me a wednesday shift this week, so I cant make it for feb 4th, have to wait and see what the roster holds for future weeks...I think its a great concept though mid-week trail runs, and hope to be a part of it one week or another...

That was a workout! Running 6km into a howling southwester is hard work.
Thanks Bernadette and Julie.

That was an awesome workout in the sand - made even better with company - although I was mostly just chasing Rob and Julie all the way back!
I was thinking about Lesmurdie Falls area for this Wed night's run - wherever we go we'll be faced with heat, it seems. At least we won't have as much direct sun, if we're starting about 7 PM.

I need to be home at a reasonable hour this Wednesday. So unless we do something close to work / home, I'll have to sit out this week.

Well, we could go zigzagging around Bold Park - it'd be part limestone and some dirt and sand tracks.
Rob, you work in the CBD?
Anyone else interested in coming out on Wed night?

Bold Park sounds like a plan Bernadette. I work in Northbridge. Roy may be interested, I'll contact him.

Okay, let's meet at the corner of Perry Lakes Drive and Oceanic Blvd - there's parking along Perry Lakes Drive. That way we can start with the 1 km run up Reabold Hill into the park proper (we'll run up the bitumen path to that carpark at the top, then around the park).
6:30 or 7 PM? A little later is fine with me, since it will still be really hot and a bit sunny at first.
