There was some talk earlier about establishing a mid week trail running series. I'd like to explore this a bit further.
Sal and I were out in the Helena Valley on Saturday walking our dogs and I suggested we head out there Thursday after work for a bit of a trot. There is a fairly solid little loop approx 8km that we ran early this year, it starts and finishes in Kalamunda National Park. Also being that we would have to drive past the Kalamunda Hotel on our way home it would be rude not to drop in for a post run pint.
We are planning to head out this Thursday straight after work and would aim to start running by about 5.30pm.
If anyone else is keen let me know and I'll post more details.
Steve

I work every Thursday from 4:30-7:45 PM Is there any chance you' guys would be interested in switching to a Wed night run? (After this Thursday's run, that is). I think it'd be great if we looked at changing routes most weeks - and pub stops afterwards are important (or a "tailgate party" afterwards with whoever-can bringing snacks and bevys). My headlamps just arrived in the post from Canada, too, so I'm excited to get out there and run in the dark again! What do people think of a Wed night vs Thurs night regular outing? Maybe I'll be outvoted for Thurs night and I'll just have to quit my job....

Unfortunately wednesday nights are no good for me. Every second thursday or the following tuesday are best for me. IE this thursday and next tuesday and so on.
I agree varying the course, I just wanted to get things going. Sal and I will be out there this thursday regardless.

I can do Tuesdays. I have a short-term work thing that'll end at 5 PM on Tuesdays, so should be able to make it out for an evening run.

Sal, Steve, and I were talking about trying alternate Tues and Thursday outings. However, they're out for this Tuesday.
I was thinking I should go light/easy/safe with Painathlon on the weekend, so won't try to plan an outing to the hills this week. Actually, I might do a little 'cross-training' and kayak Tuesday late arvo.

This week's alternate night run would be for Tues night - how about the Lesmurdie Falls route - I hiked this one day and from the end of Lewis Road carpark we did a loop around the falls and back - I can probably find some map online and will remember quite a bit of it - not too many places to go off course, although it will be dark Some single track and some double wide track. Nothing terribly technical to worry about in the dark. I believe we had 9 k on the hike. There was 1km or so on pavement near the end that we couldn't figure out how to avoid - Any interest?

Re: the Lesmurdie Falls tentative run for Tuesday night - I'll be working in Maylands til 5 PM, so would suggest a 6 PM start at the carpark at the end of Lewis Road.
Steve and Sal were 'maybes' for this one - might be able to get Julie (Bully) out, since she lives somewhere out that way.
Since it's so late now and I won't have access to internet tomorrow all day, the best bet is for anyone interested to text me to let me know if you're coming.

Tues night trail run report: Julie and I were apparently the only ones this week who wanted to run aimlessly in the dark! We met just before 6 PM and did about 1hr 20 mins at Lesmurdie Natl Park. I ran without the aid of my GPS, as I've loaned it to someone who is training for City to Surf. Despite all the comments from the peanut gallery I endured about possible navigation errors, I did get us from Lewis Road carpark over to the waterfall. We enjoyed some fantastic views of the city in the dark, plus the waterfall. No other humans sighted. We probably did about 11k, as the pace was a bit slowed at times with deciding on tracks, looking for a good river crossing point, city-gazing, staring down mean-sounding dogs, and such. Some nice hills and a bit of technical work, but not too much for being in the dark.
Next 'planned' weeknight run should be Thursday next week, the 28th. I likely can't make it, due to work, but hopefully Steve and Sal will be organizing an outing (without a pub stop so I won't be too jealous, of course).

I don't think Steve and Sal will be out this week, as I think Sal is focusing on her race-specific training for Rottsnest. I was thinking of going out tomorrow (Tues) night, but have been fighting a nasty cold since Saturday. I'd like to make a go at a Wed night run, as my legs are itching to get back on the trail (even though my body says it might just have another nap!)
Anyone out there who would be good for a Wed night run, starting around 5:45 or 6 PM? We could stay close in, if other(s) are from the inner areas of Perth and do 2 laps (for example) of Zamia Loop in Bold Park, which would be 10 k. The bushlands/hills out of town would be good for me, too - I just don't know much to suggest yet - Thomsons Lake Reserve has a 9 k track around it, apparently - mostly flat, so probably a bit too short to make it worth it for a drive out. I'm open to ideas if anyone else has Wed night open to run.
