Seeing as the reports of the message boards death were quite obviously premature it's high time we had a new thread.
How about all you good(and not so good) folk out there joining in?
There are some good WAMC events coming up and I find the post Rotto Marathon time of year pretty good. We have the Peninsular Run, Founders 10miler, The City Beach Run, Parlouf Relay and of course the New Years Eve Run. Out side of these there is of course the 6" Trail Marathon, which unfortunately clashes with the City Beach Run, never mind though the lure of the trail is stronger than the sea and I've had enough sand for the time being.
If I can shake my post Sahara and more acute post Rotto lethargy I'll be heading out for the Hills in the coming weeks in preparation for the 6". There are plenty of "Recon" runs being organized but being as lazy as I am I can't be bothered driving that far and besides it adds to the adventure not being overly familiar with the course. If anyone wants to try something different but still run in the same area, the run south to north from the top of Goldmine Hill to Jarrahdale is a great run. There is some beautiful single track and some good hills, the biggest of which fortunately you run down. It is from memory just under 40km so unless you're out for a BIG day then you'll need two cars. I'ts best going south to north and finishing at the Cafe at J/dale have a coffee and feed before driving back for the other car. The run from J/dale east towards Albany H'way on the MB track is also a nice one, perfect for an easy run as its flat for about the first 15km. Sal and I ran it early this year at night under a full moon, all the way to the Wungong Camp, approx 28km.
Yo later!! all this talk of running is making me tired, better go and put the kettle on.

yes rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated...
I can see why you have seeen enough sand for awhile...does the barren Sahara have anything to do with it...Well done on the Ratts nest result, and good to hear you will return for some more quality adventure on the Munda Biddi in december...there will be about 50-70 of us if early entries are a good guide to numbers...My calf survived 4 hours out there on the weekend, so I am confident of being there for the 5th time this year...gotta go family duties calling...

Ahhh, it's been a while and I see TB you're the only good folk out there!
Well I managed to shake of some of the post Sahara and Rotto lethargy and have trained a bit and signed up for two events. The first hip surgery and the second 6", fortunately the later comes first. I've dragged myself around the hills a bit and tanked up on Naprosyn so I reckon I'm ready. I've got me chalet booked and the Ethic's and Legal team ain't getting it this time! See some of you folk down there next sunday no doubt, probably as you disapear in a cloud of dust in front of me....

Stevo
The talk has largely been on Coolrunning, yes, but there are still a few of us who keep our eyes open. I will be there Sunday week, trying to think of more verses for "I'm a trail runner and I'm OK", this time without the politics or stirring hornets' nests, hopefully...

Also, hopefully, we will not encounter the "Knights Who Say Ni" on the track!

Geoffa,
Or, "Rapidement l'un avec les jambes blanches" as we at the" The Revolutionary Peoples Trail Running Front of Judea" refer to you.
I feel that with the impending release of some more "Wikileaks" reffering to the political hot potato to which I assume you allude I should say no more on the matter suffice to say that the cancellation of this years Libyan Challenge was a direct result of some FBI intervention caused by the events of last December.
As the brothers and sisters of the RPTRFJ know it is not the "Knights Who Say Ni" for whom we should look out next sunday, for we have traversed the MB and Bib for many a mile and know for certain that it is the Jabberwocky that poses the biggest and most real threat. It of he we should be aware. Aware but not afeared might I add, for those of us true of heart and dirt of foot have naught of which to be afeared of. Tis only wipers of other peoples bottoms and those whose fathers are hamsters and mothers smell of elderberries that the Jabberwok shall harm and it is to those same folk that we shall fart in their general direction and taunt a second time...

I will ensure I have in my possession the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch for the benefit of those so afflicted.

Young "Rapidement l'un avec les jambes blanches",
A Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch! You lucky bleeder...we used to dream of having a Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. There were 19 of us living in shoe box in't middle o road and we never so much as saw the pin from a Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch!
Before you use it for the benefit of competitors so afflicted or otherwise, you'd best clarify as to wether it be deemed outside assistance and or performance enhancing...I'm assuming you'll to fast for me on Sunday. So I'll not see you on the course but later in the day or possibly Saturday afternoon I'll be wandering around Dwellingup with my cart calling, "Bring out your dead". I'll answer to the name of Stevo but they call me Tim.....

Well I survived 6inch on a diet of three runs a week since Rotto but paid for it over the last half. You can't beat training! It was great seeing so many people out there and it was a perfect day weather wise, cold have been a bit warmer if anything.
It's a shame people can't take there Gel and food wrappers with them, it was quite disappointing to see so many discarded on the trail. I stopped picking them up after 4, I had a race to run too. Maybe it's something the organizing committee can address in the rules and race briefing next time. Congratulations to the committee Dave, Bernadette, Rob and Nathan for a great event.
I didn't take my cart out post race as someone may have thrown me on it! Only bad outcome from the race was that I got back to the chalet in time to here England surrender meekly within 53 minutes...

2 runs a week 4 me has been the standard pattern for most weeks, but what about onceaweek in his Vibrams!...
good battle between 12k to 17k...thanks for that, helped me hit the 1.53 split and a sub 2 for the first 17k I was chasing. Didnt realise it was you until you mentioned it on CR in your post...
Gave my all despite illness, and slept 11 hours as a result last night, pretty sore today too... a memorable day for most for the right reasons... very glad I arranged the day off work for this monday... Onward!

Forgive me comrades for I have sinned, it has been many long weeks since last I ventured onto the message board. My penance is too jot down some dribbling's now and right my wrong.
Since 6" runnings been a bit hit and miss. I did a couple of short runs in the post 6" week and then the Parlouf Relay on boxing day, my speedwork for the year!! It seemed to have worked as I ran 33:41 on the NYE race, then 20:05 at the Burswood Twighlight 5km and a little less quick 43 something at the Matilda Bay 10km. Since then I ran 10km on the trail with Sal and went climbing on Australia day, then the following day had surgery on my gammy hip. I've been sulking since then as I've been on crutches and not allowed to do anything. I see the surgeon again on monday and hopefully in 6 weeks can start running again....fingers crossed. The bike, pool and weights will have to do in the meantime once I get the all clear on monday...Tally-Ho!!!!

So what was the result? Are you back on the road/trail/track?
I was just behind you in the NYE and Twilight races, BTW.

Like the messageboard.."i'm not dead yet.." still no running for 5 weeks though. The surgeon was happy. I'm allowed to ride and swim and do some weights etc. Have to restrict riding to the flat and just spin basically. I don't like swimming or weights so I'm bored! Planning to get back into some regular climbing, my greatest passion after running and I'll be dusting off my kayak too. Sals keen to get a half decent Marathon time this year so I'll do my running through her for now as a coach hee, hee...need to start running again or reduce beer consumption and thats not good!!

Gday Stevo I'd like to do some climbing with you. Did my first climb at Blackwall Reach on Saturday. Was good fun- 2 up and 2 down climbs with a quick dip to keep cool.

Unfortunately I am very bad with knots. Hence water a good safety device for me.
