Welll we're loading up again for another tilt at the Waterous Loop. This fat-ass race starts and finishes in Dwellingup with the 50 miler finishing after one lap at Nanga. The course willl be an out and back this year rather than 2 laps in the same direction. We have booked a chalet at the Dwellingup Caravan Park for runners to stay in before and after the run. Cost is $157 per night to be split, so fairly cheap accomodation. The race start will be 5am although 50 mile runners can negotiate a later start if they wish. Currently we have 3 runners doing the full 100 miler and another 2 lined up to do the 50. Race day is September 26th, AFL Grand Final day, and a long weekend so plenty of time to recover before heading back to work on the Tuesday.

I'm still a tentative yes for the 100 miler, although my knee pulled up a little sore after a 20k run last week (longest run in 5 weeks). Not sure that I like the out and back idea as it means having back to back 20k sections without support, although it does mean that we won't have the 20k unsupported section towards the end of the race.
All I need to do now is the training!

Did a 24 hour rogaine with the coach over the weekend. At least I know now I can stay awake for 32 hours and still be reasonably functional. Looking forward to the 100 miler.
Planning a lap (64km approx) on the Waterous track on Saturday week 23 August if anyone is interested.

It's better to have no support between 60 and 80K and 80 & 100 K than 120-140K I think. We can discuss later if you wish. Good to see you made it through the Rogaine Rob. Is 32 hours you're planned finish time. I trhought you'd be closer to 24 hours.

I also want to do a waterous loop although Saturday week will be too soon for me so won't be joining you Rob.

I'm hoping to do Waterous quicker than 32 hours Dave, 24 hours would be great, though not sure how likely that will be. GNW in November has a 36 hour cutoff, and I think I'm going to need every one of those hours for that event.
Saturday week is about the latest i can do the loop Nathan, so can't really put it off. The week after is City to Surf...and then it's getting too close to race day for a 64km run I reckon.

Rob, I have decided that I might come out and join you next saturday for the waterous loop. I don't want to risk running 65k just yet but I will probably run the first 40-45k and then walk much of the last 20k so as not to put too much pressure on the ITB's but still get some good time on my feet.
What are you plans for the run (walk breaks etc)? I'm thinking that I'll take very few breaks in the first 40-45k to ensure I finish in a reasonable time as I have to work that night. I would favour a 6am start and would hope to be done by 2pm (8hrs).
Still haven't ruled out a trip to the stirlings the weekend after this run for a ridgetop walk effort as I'm not doing C2S. Plan would be to head down on Friday afernoon/evening, drop some water, sleep in the car Friday night and start the run at 4am Sat morning. I would hope to be done in around 10hrs. Strenght from this run will be valuable for the 100 miler.

I was planning a 25 minute run / 5 minute walk strategy Nathan. 8 Hours gives us a 7:30 pace, and I reckon we should do that without an issue. 6am is fine. Do we need to drop water anywhere? I'll have 3 litres with me so can probably make 40km or so.

Rob I thought the 23rd was Sunday? I also thought that Steve and Sal were planning on coming.

Must be Sat 22nd I think Dave.
Rob I'll try and keep the 25/5 strategy with you but may choose to walk more towards the final stages if I feel a little tight, might use that strategy on Sat for my 42k run. Water drops will depend which way we go. Water is available at Waroona dam and the Bidja (spelling?) campsite. Clockwise from Nanga we shouldn't need to drop water as we could fill up at the campsite (12k + small detour) and then again at the Dam (48k). Anti clockwise we could fill up at the dam (18k) and again at the campsite (53k).
Man I'm getting so excited!!

Dave & Rob Not sure if you are aware but I am in the process of going through rehab on my hamstring, I am on a fairly strict exercise and strength program. Steve is building up for Rottnest. Our goal is 6" this will be my first big race back. Hopefully injury free. We thought Waterous was being run in Sep? ? Good to hear Rob's running is going well and ahuge effort Dave at the 24hr race. We will see you on the trails again soon. Sal

Dave: yup, it's the 22nd, sorry.
Nathan: Sounds good. Really glad I don't have to do this on my own.
Sal: It is September, we are just arranging a little training run.

My plan is to run/walk from home and meet you guys in Dwellingup. From there I'd love a lift to Nanga and was planning to run only to the shop. (86K all up) From there if you guys are running slow enough Bel was planning on running with you for about 20K. Or she'll drop off the back if you're too fast no big stress. I was going to support until Nanga Rd and then go home. So you could leave water with me but there is also the Waterous Picnic spot with water avialable at about 28K.

Ok, so the run is this saturday morning and it's time to make some concrete plans.
Start @ 6am Nanga camping ground, I favour an anti clockwise loop taking us via the waroona dam @ 18k. Dave is running for a few hours from 2am and I'll pick him up on the way. I'm not sure if I'll do the full loop, all depends how I feel on the day. One option is the stop when Bel stops and get a lift back to the (approx 40k of running) but we'll see.
