Well it's that time of year again where we consider whether to head off to Dwellingup for another edition of the Waterous 100 miler. I was looking at the next long weekend Sept 26th Saturday start time about 5am. This is AFL grand final day but I think that just adds another distraction and one can listen on the radio through the middle of the race. Unfortunately Nathan is unavailable this weekend so an alternate would be the following week. This is something that can be negotiated with all prospective runners. All but the fatest runners will be looking at little to no sleep Saturday night so the extra recovery of the Monday holiday would be very welcome. Rob is looking forward to a bigger challenge after conquering the Kep and to everyone who thinks this is too crazy I suggest reading Ultramarathon Man and getting some enthusiasm for the 100 mile distance it really is a 1 day odeyssy.

Also I can confirm the 5th "fat-ass" edition of Six Inch will get underway 4.30am on the 20th of December. This is first light WST and allows all runners to finish before the midday heat sets in.

I may still be able to make the long weekend. I'll more than likely need to work on the Sunday Night down in Bunbury but if we start early on Sat (say 6am) I would like to think I'd be finished early Sun morning so plenty of time to get down to Bunbury.
What the heck, I'M IN!!!!

Early notice I know...but Saturday 8 August I have down to run a 61km recon run of the loop. Anyone else interested?

Sorry Rob that date is 1 week after my 24 hour debut so I'll pass. Also although advertised as 61k the loop is 65k.

Don't want to name names but certain runners (Steve & Sal) need to show what they can do in Aussie conditions.

Will there be an 80k option again? Anyone else interested in that? I'm not sure I should do 100 miles so soon after my injury. My main goal is to try to get to the Libyan Challenge in February (200+ kms).
As for the Aug 8 recon run, that is also the date of Painathlon this year.... 50 k of running and 120 of cycling between run stages. Sun up to sun down.

Good to have you back Bernadette!
Always a 50 mile option at Waterous 100. Closer to 86k from memory

Oddly, Rob, when I checked my training program, it lists "rest" for Sunday Aug 9. But since you're flexible and I'm not, you can do Painathlon with me and we'll do the recon run August 22. Since you gave me a copy of your running program, I was able to type it right in ;D

Rest days? Recon run for 22 August sounds ok. No painathlon though, no time for bike training at the moment.

Steve , Sal Aren't you guys biting?? August 22 may suit me we'll see how I pull up from 24hour. The single loop course is very close to 81k without a detour to the hut which we don't do but can if needed for water on the recon. Recon will be about 65-66k.

Will there be an 80k option again? Anyone else interested in that? . Howdy Bernadette (and eveyone else) I would be interested in attempting the 80km option. My roster has me working on this day so it will come down to how my prep goes and whether or not I can get a shift swap. Same goes for the Six inch. I have not been motivated to do any events recently - just can't get excited about running on the road for some reason. At least now I feel I have something to train for

Sadly I will have to give this a miss and all future long distance runs as my knees have decided enough is enough. Thankfully I can still ride a bike so you may still see me out there on the trails. Thanks everyone for the good runs and not-so-good runs, I look forward to hearing all about your future exploits. Keep smiling Suzy

RC - I know exactly how you feel about road running. Until I saw Dave's note reminding us of the Waterous race option for September, I was thinking it was time to create another fat-ass trail race for the spring!
Have you got King of the Mtn on your radar? It's only 16k but it's trail and you get a good creek soaking.
Suzy - very sad to hear I won't be working you over for Painathlon this year. I was hoping we'd have you back on the trails once tri season was over. Guess Karri Cup will become a staple for you! How about AR and rogaines? Can you still hike/shuffle on occasion? With my knee the way it is, I'm going to be cross training on the bike a lot more, so maybe we can do some more of those cycling days out.
