Heading off to do the Auckland Marathon on Oct 31 - does anyone have any first hand experience with this run?
Hopefully my hamstring tendon will be ok by then - I ripped it before Perth Marathon but still ran the marathon(mistake) and subsequently wrecked it completely
Cheers ;D ;D ;D

Hi Pete, I did the Auck a few years ago. Then, you caught a ferry across the bay and ran back to the city over the bridge. The first half was very hilly and the second half was an out and back along a path beside the bay. Very well organised with great views of Auckland. Good Luck!!!!

Thanks for the info - it would appear from the race information that the course is still the same with a ferry to the start at 4am in the morning for the marathon runners so it should be an interesting start to the day
Cheers ;D ;D

Just wanted to let everyone know that if you are looking for an overseas marathon to do then I can thoroughly recommend the Auckland Marathon. This is seriously the best organized event I have ever run in - for starters try getting 7,000 people by ferry to the start line across the other side of Auckland harbour by the 6.10am start time.It all went like clockwork even though it did make for an early 2.30am wake up to eat and catch the ferry at 4.00am!! The course itself is very scenic with great views across the harbour. Be aware that there is a limit on the numbers allowed to enter so you need to get in early when registrations open (March 2011) as they fill quickly - website www.aucklandmarathon.co.nz/ ;D ;D
