After preparing for 6 months, the day before we left for the UK we were informed that the race had been cancelled. Undeterred we flew out and found a race in South Devon to take some of the edge off of our dissapointment. The race was part of a series called the Coastal Trail Series. So rather than 208km in the desert we were to run 45.5km on the coastal trails and muddy feilds and lanes of not so sunny Devon.
It proved to be a great race and spectacular day. The temp was about 2C at the start and the wind was bitterly cold and strong. The hills were steep and plentiful and despite having been prepared for a multi-day desert adventure and a week of eating and drinking the best that England had to offer, we had a ball.
We finished in 6:30 something, cold, wet, muddy but very, very happy. Check out: endurancelife.com CTS 2010.
We did some great hikes onDartmoor Plain also after the race and got back to Aus 5.30 yesterday, the hottest it got to in England while we were there 8C. Perth temp was a bit of a shock.
See you on the trail soon
