Hi
Have other people noticed that the finish for the marathon is different to the other distances? Instead of going through Perry Lakes as originally planned, you have to continue on Stephenson Ave past Challenge Stadium, turn right up to West Coast Highway and then up to City Beach. Probably won't make a huge difference, but I was looking forward to a downhill finish with lots of supporters. I wonder why they changed it?
Any thoughts?

Couple of thoughts as to why:
1) They needed more distance. From the normal turnoff into Perry Lakes on the C2S course, the new Marathon course seems about 700 metres longer from that point. 2) They are keeping the marathon runners seperate from the 12km runners, with each group running on different sides of the median strip on the dual carriage ways. That would have been difficult through Perry Lakes.

also its not as steep a hill at the finish?...but keeping marathoners separate from the 12k runners is especially important...I'm thinkin of doing the City to surf marathon as a training run if I pull up alright from the Perth Marathon this weekend...

I think the "new" route is just as hilly, but it's no big deal. See you at the Perth marathon this Sunday if I get over this cold !! I'll be using this as a training run for the C2S - hopefully keeping up with Dave Henderson's pale blue brigade. Regards Geoffa
