Just flew back in to Oz and the first two sites I have checked are Kep 100 and WAMC.
Congratulations to all who took part and all who assisted.
Sounds like you all enjoyed yourselves!!!
Special mention to Rob for getting this up and going and I bet he is already planning next year.
See you out there,
Coops.

Well done to everyone on this race! Sounds like a lot of fun and I must admit that seeing Dave's Kep 100 shirt yesterday made me more than a little jealous!
Well Done!

Bernadette did a great 75km at the Blackfoot Race on Saturday by the way. She finished as we started the Kep, and I got the msg as I started the downhill in Mundaring. Will let B tell her own story.

Hi from Canada, everyone! I didn't want to hijack this thread to tell about my Blackfoot Ultra race, but it seemed silly to start a whole new thread just to give my race report. And I know anyone who might be interested in my race would check out the Kep thread. It was really cool getting emails and SMS about people's races in Kep while I'm in Canada. Congrats to everyone who finished. Condolances to those who put in all the training but had a bad day of it. The Blackfoot Ultra was another great learning experience for me. As most of you guys know, I have been recovering from a sort of friction injury/impingement sydrome caused by my weird knee anatomy. This all hit the acute phase during the 40 Miler. While total rest was key, I needed to get back into some serious training before the 100k ultra. I think I pushed it a bit in early May, so got some compensation injuries - very tight adductor and killer tight calf that hurt with every step. As I told Rob, I was actually so desperate last Wednesday that I stabbed myself with an acupuncture needle! Nope, I've never had any training - is that important? I found a real physio/acupuncturist on Friday arvo and limped to the start line on Saturday for 5 AM. I decided to take the whole experience as a training run - to practice all my race prep and just run whatever I could that morning. I thought that honestly might be about 4k. The setting was beautiful - marshy lands filled with lakes and birds - moose country. The terrain was undulating cross country ski track - similar to MBiddi but the ground was dirt/softer, rather than rocky. Very nice for a long day out. The course is comprised of 25k loops. I ran 21k before getting my first twinge of knee pain. I told myself I'd stop at 25k, but felt good again, so went back out for another loop. More twinges. Told myself to stop at 50k and not tempt fate any more. Came in to the transition zone, though, and everyone was cheering me on (my mum and sister were also there to walk the 25k 'baby ultra' starting at 11 AM). So I taped my knee and found myself back out on the course! Things got a little nastier, though, and I found I had to walk the downhills to prevent pain in the tib/fib joint area. I made a vow to stop at 75k and did. I had plenty of time to finish within the cutoff - even if I had walked the entire last lap I think I would have still placed second or third woman. But it wasn't the race I wanted. It wasn't worth re-injuring myself and having to go all the way back to 'Square One' for that. Overall, it was a great day out. Even though I chose to DNF, it was a hundred times better race than the 40 Miler for me. I did many more things 'right' - having learned from the 40 Miler. And I got a few more tips on what else I can improve. I got to see and cheer on some old friends and watch the top Canadian 50k trail runners fly through that course - the same people who will be off to France in July for the IAU World Trail Running champs.

75k, sticking needles in yourself, someone else sticking needles in you, taping up knees, running with Moose, fantastic!. What an experience. Congrats on completing 75k. Injuries can hurt us all and you have most likely made a very wise decision by stopping. Stronger faster for next time is the way to go. Enjoy the homeland. Coops.

Well done B, great effort considering the less than ideal prep. Sounds like a beautiful spot to run - I'm jealous.

Well done Bernadette, both on running 75k and also choosing the wise option and stopping when things got real bad.
