Unfortunately I can't do the next week. The 13th & 20th are two big weeks in WA and mandurah especially I keep forgetting what's on when, but everyone out there get into either the: Mandurah: Canal swim, enduro triathlon, bridges fun run, or freeway bike ride, darlington half or I'd love to do John Forrest too. While on the subject of XC I'm looking at getting some regular "real XC" action happening; not the round a park action AA puts on. At this stage I'm thinking of having an 11k handicap race along the bibbilmum into Dwellingup probably in May. There might be a shorter run in April on one of my local Mandurah tracks. I'm hoping to find some nice tracks in the jarrahdale area which would suit interested runners in Mandurah, Rockingham and Metro. Back to the original IT problem I'm not too worried about missing out and my taper has shown up some exciting form. I'll continue taking this week easy and will do 3-4 hours somewhere on Sunday morning. Dave. K.

OK - I'm standing up. Notice how the real AndrewC has no gaps in his name. Don't be fooled by imposters - and I'm not talking to myself... My ITB problem has ruled out this week-end for the Cape to Cape - but I'm still aiming to do it over Easter. I'll post something here closer to the time. - AndrewC

;D...thats what happens when we log in under guest instead of our name...*LOL*
Its great when there are so many good races to choose from....as long as paralysis of choice doesnt exert too much influence...was reading about that ITB thing in a sports injuries book today....
Dave keep me posted re that Jarrahdale & Mandurah real! XC ideas....I might be up for that....went mountainbiking with friends on the Mundi Biddi the last two years to find a rather elusive POW camp near Jarrahdale...The second time we went we found it....
Be interesting to see if Benita Johnson can win in the World XC on 19/20 March
Nice to to see a former West Australian Sarah Jamieson winning th 1500 in 4.06 at the A-series in melbourne just recently.....I remember her from an all-schools nationals state team......apparently she had surgery 7 times to get through injuries before she has really come good in recent years.... at 29 or 30.....
Mottram looked in a class of his own in the 5000m also in Melbourne....another XC chance? in France on 19/20 March.....

Suzy, I am hoping to check out the JF XC this weekend as I have stated on my new BLOG
www.geocities.com/Colosseum/7549/runmara2005blog.html ....although I havent raced since November,so not sure how fit I'll be, it should be just the challenge I need to push me a bit to get ready for the Bridges....If I show I'll be wearing my trusty black TYR hat backwards Hewitt style...as usual....it stops the wind blowing it off...
I know Dave will be racing in the DEEEP South of the "metro", or what used to be/still is country... anyone else doing John Forrest?

Well I am now acquainted with "old faithful"......I tried not to walk up it but in the end it broke me for some of the way, tough hill! some awesome views very nice peaceful place to run, and was a very good hitout to fire me up to start getting fitter for the Bridges....hope to do the John Forrest again in future years really glad I came for it...... I was happy with 12k in 68min which is ok for me just now...
Suzy I think I saw your cool running hat as the 6k started at the back of the field, but I was getting ready for the 12k....Howd you go?
well got to go watch the Aust T&F champs from sid e nee (the winner is) on SBS TV, and figure out which T&F sessions I want to go to for the Comm Games in Melbourne....now for the Bridges....

Hey Trailblazer, Faithfull's Hill is a killer isn't it? Glad you enjoyed the run. Yep that would've been me starting at the back of the 6k, which is pretty much where I stayed. Good run, though I would have preferred more trails, and less roads. Next year I'll have to do the 12k. TB I was cheering on the 12k runners just before the end where you turn off the road back onto the gravel. I saw one guy in a black cap & called out hey Trailblazer to him but it wasn't you. So then when you did come by I didn't call out at first until I saw the TYR on the back of your cap & by then you were gone in a cloud of dust. I must say you really looked like you were enjoying yourself - more than I can say for many of the others at that point. Well done! Sorry I didn't catch up with you afterwards - too busy yakking!

Hey Suzy, Yes! Faithfull's'Hill sure is a toughie!
I was looking on the map in the carpark afterwards, and seeing how much roads on the 6k course I am glad I didn't go with the 6k, which i did think about doing... [glow=red,2,300]Although I think with the 6k you still would have had a pretty good view of the Darling? Scarp falling away below onto the plains of Perth city....[/glow]Hope to see you in the 12k next year....
My quads are pretty sore today so I know I did a good one....I had a lot of fun out there, and had a good sprint finish battle at the end with some Rogainer bloke who I diced with in the second half...he just held me off, but the HR was about 189 (extrapolated from 10 seconds), so I know we put it in...Really enjoyed it! Til next year....
Nice pic...*LOL*

Hi everyone I must admit more incompetence and the fact I've been missing a lot of the interesting banter going on. I usually just press last ten posts and thought that would give me the latest but hey there's other boards out there I'm missing out on by being that slack. Well I might just have to say after last weekend that my favourite WA race is the Mandurah bridges. OK maybe this is from a completely biased point of view as I run to the start line and home 3k each way, but it is a special race. It's the first race I did after recommencing my running career post high school and after deciding to hang the bottle up after a chequered few years. On top of this it was the first race I won taking out the inaugrual race in 2001 in 23.02. I took the next two years off as they clashed with local triathlon's and I was busy chasing points for the club champs. However last year's triathlon club champs became a one off race and I ran the bridges again. My goal at the start was to win and get the course record. I thought that this was obtainable- even though they had added 300m- because not only had I improved a lot but Evan Kolbe's record was only six seconds faster than my 23.02. (He set this in 2002 with virtually no competion.) However 2004 was a fantastic race with me and Stephen Snowden swapping the lead throughout the race before he outsprinted me off a last K of around 3 minutes to win by 5 secs in 22.47. This year I woke on the morning of the race expecting no competion but exhausted from umpiring the night before. However 2005 saw a three way race with Darren from Bunbury throwing out the challenge to us Mandurah runners by leading until 2K to go. After taking 4K to pull in Darren and Stephen I sat in for a K into the wind before making my move with 2K to go. Darren lost touch to run 23.30 and Stephen and I had another sprint finish down the home straight. After running exactly the same time as I did in 2004 Stephen prevailed by 1 sec. WHAT MAKES THIS RACE GREAT? The run to the start this year I got 19K in with warm up, warm down and the race. The 7K distance can be run at 5K intensity but last longer. (After 2 increases I think it's a "real" 7K now.) (Being competitive always makes it exciting) The road is closed. There's usually only 40 or so entrants, come twice and someone will probably remember your name. So come on down to Mandurah next year. I know that it clashed with John Forrest this year which sounds great but, one day they'll get it on the right weekend. Whoops I better race off to training! Dave
