Congrats on a great run Dave. Would love to read all about it when you've got some spare energy to write a race report. Enjoy the recovery.

Thanks for all the support guys. I started off running quite fast because that is what feels natural to me. I was running around 4.30/k and taking walk breaks each 25minutes. I stopped for food at about 1.20 and cruised through 20k in 1.40. It was a bit discouraging to see how few laps I was making up on my main rivals despite running heaps faster. I think the time keepers missed between 1&3 laps during the race whcich didn't end up being a major deal but I would appreciate electronic scoring and it was hard work with scorers doing 3-4 runners, 3-4 seperatate events and spectators, support runners and tourists walking past. At one stage I was given a bonus lap which I asked them to remove. I tried running slower at Kep and that didn't really seem to help me hence the decision to run like a normal long run pace early on. 3hours passed with 33K which was good but by 4hours I had developed a stitch that would stay with me about 7hours. With a painful stitch I started walking the uphill portion of each lap 1-200m depending on direction. This obviously caused me to lose a lot of time even though for some of it I ran really fast I was walking really slowly. Kato from coolrunning was my host for the weekend and grabbed me some yought whcih was all I ate from 7pm to 7am as well as drinking half a cup of coke periodically. I didn't have the tolerance to eat large quantities of anything. Throughout the night I pushed for 7K/hour to try and catch Nathan's 180 from 08 but as the sun came up at 6am I fell into a major hole and thought I don't really care, 175K, sounds good. I was a miserable sight for about 1.45 when I asked Geoff to update the lap count. I discovered that I was only 4 laps in front of SuperWalker Peter Bennett so set to work after brekkie pulling back 4 laps on him to make sure I beat him. Milov was really strong and ran a consistent 103/98k split. I've pulled up pretty well. I had calf cramps from 4hours and borrowed some salt tablets, ate chips, etc. Had a super sore top of my calf most of the night which I ended up self-taping over top of my thermals which really helped. Right achilles was and is still sore with a lump?? hope that goes soon. But really it came down to stomach issues again I think. Plus some pretty bad dehydration too no doubt.
Looking Forward I dont' plan on another 24hour run, it's too far, too expensive and I don't think I'd be more than a 50/50 chance for World Championships Qualification (200k minimum ~205K currently to get in top 6 and make Aussie team). Also the fact that World's are run on road would mean changing my training significantly to be competitive and the risk of impact injuries increasing.
However the actual race I did was a great experience. It's better to try and fail then never to try at all. The Caboolture Historical Village is a great place for a race. The weather was lovely even if 3-4C warmer than ideal at day the night was superb. The course is great with slight undulations to vary the workload on the legs and direction changes every hour too. It's pretty and shaded quite a bit and if was going to go for a run today I'd love to do a few more laps.
