I thought I'd take a poll on whether likely runners would prefer a 4.30am (first light) start or the more respectable 5.30am.
We've always started at first light but the daylight saving trial gave us the more respecable time of 5.30am for the last 3 years.
For quicker runners the later start would probably cost you about 5 minutes (you are running the hour between 8.30 & 9.30 (approx 26C) instead of 4.30-5.30am (approx 15C))
Slower runners will lose the cool hour (~15C) swapping it for 10.30-11.30am (~30C)

WOW, Six Inch alreay!  Lots to happen before 6 Inch but good to start the logistics early.
First light is good. I'm not too fussed but I reckon that those out there for 5hrs+ would appreciate the earlier start time. Note also that many Ultras over east have a 'early start' option for those back of the packers who want to run but not be out there all day.

Last year the 5:30 start was fine, but the temp was mild. Could quite easily be a 40 degree day, so the earlier the better I reckon.

I won't be running, but as a previous slower runner I would appreciate the earlier start to avoid the heat.

Just clarifying that although last year was 5.30am start it was the same as 4.30am this year (or traditional first light) due to daylight saving.

Some of the queensland trail races start at 3am to avoid the heat.

Sunday 20th Dec, Start 4:30am from the bottom of Goldmine Hill in North Dandalup (just off del park rd). Finished in Dwellingup at the town park near the BBQ's. Run is likely to remain fat ass for this year unless we see a miracle.

20th December with a 4.30am start. 46K of undulating trails. 
Course records
Craig Dufty- 3.36
Bernadette Benson- 4.47?
Hoping for that miracle Nathan we are sending in an application.
As they said on the forum they can't expect to keep the whole track for the few cyclists who use it.

Female record is 4.41
I'll be there one way or the other - probably support. I would like to shave a decent chunk of my time from last year but I've got at least a month off coming up now after surgery. If I'm not running fit and ready by then, I'll just take up an aid station instead.
I hope the permit goes through!

I hope it goes through too...would be nice to have that hassle off the agenda...worse case scenario at least you'll hopefully have a better picture of what the exact position of the relevant organisations are...to some extent it sounds like poor communication on all sides...
The interest in 6 inch on Cool Running is gathering momentum, there are 23 members of the facebook group, and I often talk about it with hills group people so its becoming a well known run.
With the Kep Ultra last year getting off to a good start, big numbers in the 40 miler in recent years, seems like the interest in shorter Ultras is going somewhere...If things keep going that way eventually more and more people will step up and try the 100km/70km/100 mile type options...remember that a dozen or so from the hills group go over to South Africa for the 89km Comrades every year (one of the reasons for the big numbers in the 40 miler), so I still think if you want Ultra running to develop in WA it makes sense to come run with the hills group sometime on saturdays...
I also plan to be at 6 inch again although whether its running or at aid station I am not sure yet...probably more likely the latter this year...

just found out about this event a week ago,it'll be a good lead up to the Kep Trail ultra! how many people are keen to run this year? also are there any trails close to Perth cbd?? been running Kings Park a bit but i'm just going in a lot of circles
