Drinks related; Dave posted; -Water carrying container- i.e. Hydration pack (Camel back or get a cheap Outer Limits one for $20 these carry 1.5L) or go the old bottle holder or possibly a belt though I think 1.5L + would be ideal to make it between stations comfortably.
-Gary will be at the start line if you want to leave food or sports drink with him.
More drinks info;
Water: This will NEED to be carried by yourself. Outer Limits hydration packs are available from as little as $20 for 1.5L packs (see camping stores). However Gary has kindly offered to man a refill station at approx 21K mark. There will be approximately 20L here so if entering late please bring a 2L bottle filled with preferred beverage. On top of what is drunk during the first 21K 1.5L should be more than adequate to see you through to the finish. There is NO additional water stops.
Recon showed that Oakley Dam is most unsuitable for rehydration though there is a pit toilet here if you can find it about 30metres off the track. (Only water available is that in the dam and stream - if still running)
I Recommend that you fill your packs before coming to the start.

Directions to race start: 1.. Make way to North Dandalup on South West Hwy between Serpentine/Jarrahdale and Pinjarra. 2.. Turn left into Del Park Rd at southern end of North Dandalup just past servo (also on left). Follow for 1.3K south east before turning left into Whittakers Rd (look for Goldmine Hill sign). Race start is here!
Kwinana freeway travelling south, left into Mundijong Rd, right into South West Highway is a good route from Perth. Or follow South West Highway from Armadale.
Race Hazards: Honky nuts, snakes, hills, dehydration, navigation issues; Don't get lost- use MundaBiddi Map 2 or run with someone who is good at navigating.
MAPS Mundi Biddi Map 2 $10 at Dwellingup visitors centre (open 10am to 3pm every day), and most good Bicycle shops.
We will provide photocopies of MundaBidd Map 2 free of charge to anyone who needs them at the start. See Trailblazer777 (Jon) for these.
Emergency Plan: -1. Wait for Trail Cyclist. -2. Walk to Del Park Rd and wait for traffic. -3. Bail with Gary at 21K mark and get lift to finish. DON"T GET LOST
Finish: The Mundi Biddi comes out on Del Park Rd near the railway line within the town of Dwellingup. The finish is behind the pub on the grassed area in the shade of the lone tree.
Support info; -The race is essentially a training run with no fees or awards. -Please time yourself and we will post them here for future runners to access. -Although there are some helpers generously donating time to make the experience more enjoyable you are essentially self reliant.
If providing your own support the bitumen Road between the start and finish is 24K with runner access at approx 17K mark (crossing of Del Park) and some points via gravel road see maps. Mundi Biddi Map 2 $10 at Dwellingup visitors centre (open 10am to 3pm every day), and most good Bicycle shops or just grab a photocopy off Jon the Trailblazer at the start.
Race Preview; The 1ST 45km 6-INCH TRACK MARATHON winds its way up the Mundi Biddi Trail with the backdrop of an early morning sunrise draped over the Darling Scarp, and the plains below. Anyone out there up for the challenge NOW is the time to start getting ready for it..or even just come along to watch and support...Corner of Whittaker Rd and Del Park Rd, (near North Dandalup servo on South Western Highway) is the start line, with the first challenge being the ascent of Goldmine hill. Finish is at Dwellingup, some beautiful bush to run through...Inspired by NSW's infamous 6-FOOT Track Marathon in the Blue Mountains; See; http://www.sixfoot.com/
The 2005 6-INCH TRACK MARATHON will be a tough challenge just to finish for all who are daring enough to take on the challenge. The race for line honours looks to be between 4 favourites; Cota,Dave, Jason and Warren. At the moment it looks like 5-time Ironman finisher Suzy will be the first and only woman in the race, unless a late entry can change that...
Some spectators expected at finish and start, but this is mostly a peaceful run on the trails of the "Path through the forest"...Come leave the worries of the city behind, for the beautiful trails of the Munda Biddi this weekend, and a totally exhilarating challenge of an experience!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Essentials; 1.camelback/fuel belt are probably the most important things... 2.MundaBiddi Map 2 3.glasses/hat
All the best with your 2005 MundaBiddi 6-inch Track Marathon experience,
I will try to answer any last minute questions up until Saturday midday at latest. (Try my emails; jontheroadrunner@rocketmail.com OR jonl74au@yahoo.com.au , or the message board) Can leave a message on my mobile though; 0439 817 518 up until late Saturday night
see you there. Jon (AKA Trailblazer 777)

OK, I'm in. I'll be driving from Yallingup in the morning, so I can give a lift to anyone South of the start line. Hope I can get a lift back to the start when it's all over . If anyone wants to do a car shuffle so we have 1 at either end, let me know. Also, I'll have a backpack I'd like to get to the finish - can anyone help? Thanks.
See you in the a.m.

Thanks for putting the run together Dave and Jon. Great concept and a lot of work. Thanks also to the helpers especially Gary. Really enjoyed the run and I hope you guys do the same next year. Anyone considering a good trails run over 45-46k in really beautiful sw bush would really enjoy this one. Lots of good hills and shady trails. Well worth the effort. Sleep well tonight.

Thanks for your support Cota, and assistance in promoting the event, getting the word out.
Well done also on an excellent run.
Some results;
1st Dave 4 hrs 02 minutes 53 secs 2nd Cota 4 hrs 22 minutes 47 secs 3rd Warren 4 hrs 27minutes 4th Andrew C. 4 hrs 45 minutes 5th Nathan 5 hrs 25 minutes 6th Jon/TB 6 hrs 25 minutes 27km DNF Suzy ...(around 3-4 hours of running?...)
Well Done all! The shadedness of the trail was very important with 35 degree heat developing...
Think I was a bit short of fluids despite going through 2.2 L water, 2.4l of Powerade/Gatorade, 3 Carboshotz...
Many Thanks to Gary for doing the waterstop, I think I should have taken on more drinks with me then...

Yes a big thanks to Dave, TB, Gary and everyone else for organising and supporting this great run. Would be good to have some more runners out there next year. Well done all finishers. Glad you made it TB, you did well to stick it out in that heat. Sorry I couldn't keep going with you. I made it to about 27k mark but my legs just didn't have it in them. Next year... Did Kate get back OK?

Yes I agree, hopefully there will be more runners willing to take on the challenge in 2006...will have opportunity to promote it better for the next one...
Well Done Dave for launching this exciting concept, and doing the hard yards to keep the race on track, all the way to fruition yesterday...Way to go!
Suzy; yeah Kate got back ok, but I think she might have gotten a little lost, but eventually found her way to Del Park Rd, Dave phoned her after he finished...and she drove into Dwellingup a few minutes after I finished...
Suzy thanks heaps for supporting the race, well done! on your run!, and for being the first woman to attempt the 6-inch...extremely gutsy especially so soon! after Ironman WA!!!
and now you have done a 27km Recon Run, I hope you'll be back to beat the 6-inch in 2006?
Hey Andrew, Nathan, can you please confirm your final times for 6 inch... and well done!!! on conquering the 6-inch........ ---------------------------------------------------------------- Some of Jon's thoughts on personal Challenges and Positives from the 2005 6-inch; (see my blog for more of this boring stuff @ http://runmara2005blog.blogspot.com )
Challenges; Turned out to be tougher than I expected, some of the main challenges I encountered; 1. -my right arm cramped up/got very sore about 18km-19km mark just after Del Park Rd... So only had the left arm to help drive me up the hills from there onwards...
2. -The hills between Del Park Rd and Oakley Dam really put me through the wringer.... Ended up walking a lot of the final 15km.
3. -my last hour I was battling mild dehydration, I had run out of water and powerade, and I had "spent all me pennys" in the legs..... 4. -the heat/sun just before Marrinup where the big powerlines are, was significant...but mostly there was plenty of shade so any heatstroke was minor... (it was 32-35 degrees by 1154am according to TV news later that day, and I finished at about 1040ish...)... 5- made a minor navigation error near Whittakers that took me a little off course, but soon rejoined the MundaBiddi...can't believe I missed a turn somewhere especially as I had run that section with Dave on Recon Run #2 a few weeks earlier... [but not as big an error as some others, who decamped on the Munda Biddi in a Northerly direction instead of a Southerly direction?? which handed the lead to Dave...]...
When Dave came out on the mountainbike looking for me I was still a chance to go sub 6 hours (my easy goal time for the race--{my hard goal time if I had trained better was sub 5hrs, although I perhaps would revise that to sub 5hrs30 in hindsight}) at Marrinup if I could have put together sub 6min K's for the rest of the way...but after digging deep for about 13minutes or so...threw in the towel and walked the last 45 minutes or so to the finish... the last 30minutes or so was with my Fiancee who came out to walk to the finish with me...legs just didnt have any juice...
Some positives; 1.- I finished the toughest run/race I have ever attempted and did not let the 6-inch beat me... 2-my new DMH-Hydra hydration pack was comfortable to run with, and pretty much did the job, although I should have stocked up with more fluids at the halfway mark, but thats my error of judgement. So very happy with that. 3.-got to see some very beautiful and varying scenery, including the view looking back from top of Goldmine hill, the conveyer belt, views near Marrinup... 4.-revisited some of the trails and SCARP RD near Whittakers AND OAKLEY DAM where I did hiking camp 1987-1990, some similiar terrain to the Cardiac Arrest Hill between Gooralong and "The Swamp"... http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/7549/hikingcamp88.html
5.-was a very special time with my Fiancee who I really appreciated being there for me... 6-had some good chats with Suzy and Kate near Whittakers..., and enjoyed running at an easy pace for a lot of the first 17km to Del Park Rd; 2hrs 17min... 7-enjoyed the solitude and time alone away from the city, especially from Del Park Rd onwards, and enjoyed cranking up the pace running sub 6minutes per km for 4km (Del Park Rd-17km to Drinks stop on Scarp Rd with Gary 21km), and also for a short while before that when I tried to catch up to Cota,Warren and Andrew not long after Whittakers...(had them in sight, but couldn't quite get onto the train...) when they returned from their detour towards Dandalup Dam... 8-The whole experience was rather surreal at times for me in a nice way, and despite coming into the run on less than 2 hours sleep, my 2005 6-inch experience was enormously rewarding, and I am very happy and satisfied to have finished the course...
