Thanks everyone for your suggestions and interest. Shortly after asking for suggestions I came up with what I think is a winning idea. Nth Dandalup to Dwellingup mostly via the Mundi Biddi Track. The race starts from the bottom of Goldmine Hill for a 2K ascent followed by 43K of undulating trails. (mostly not single track) The race hits the Mundi Biddi after about 4K and then follows it to Dwellingup. I hope the race bears some resemblance to the famous six foot track marathon in the Blue Mountains (hence the name six inch- and because it's along a mountain bike course) with the same distance, one way and a hilly course. I've set the date at 18th December and starting at 4am. Fortunately the first bit is along a good gravel road so if it is only half light this won't be a problem. Hopefully we can all be finished by 10am. Advantages of this race include: Close to Metro (Sorry Andrew but it is closer to you than Perth) Hilly most of the way (A run to do as a challenge not to run a marathon PB) Vehicle access at certain points. Can take a bike escort if you wish. No marathon club event that day. I already have about 3 expressions of interest and am hoping for a field of 6-8 although if this thing takes off 40 wouldn't be out of the question maybe in a few years. It will be run along the no fees, awards, aid or wimps principle although I hope to arrange for water refills at 20K (good access and parking). Please indicate your interest.

Way to go Dave! Perth's City Surf is now rivalling Sydney's for the biggest races of the nation, West Coast plays Sydney this weekend, and now the WA answer to NSW's infamous 6 foot track marathon.
For those those who have not heard about the 6 foot track marathon, (45km through the Blue Mountains up and down some tortorous hills) get onto www.coolrunning.com.au do a search of messageboard you will read lots about it. I came across some race reports as part of my involvement with the cool running Bloggers there.
Two thoughts; maybe a more individual self descriptive name, maybe the the 7 inch snake or something. Anyone know offhand what Mundi Biddi means?
I will check my diary and see what I have on but I might be a starter, heat, snakes and all. Following the Mundi Biddi would be very good from a Support crew point of view.

Great stuff Dave. This sounds like a most excellent event. Will there be a cut off time? If there is please make it generous to encourage anyone who wants to give it a go regardless of how fast or slow they are.
I agree with TB, a more unique name would be good, perhaps the Munda Biddi Track Ultramarathon, or MBT Ultra.

For your info - Munda Biddi means "Path through the Forest" in the Nyoongar language.

Thanks for all the interest. I've just began sleeping well again after hatching the idea last Thursday. I came up with the name about midnight lying in bed thinking about different aspects of the race. My wife doesn't really understand it either, but it refers to, (a) It's origin from the famous 6 foot track (same distance, hill's, trails, etc) and (b) the most popular of mountain bike trails, single track, or just wide enough for one bike. Whilst most of the course isn't single track the Mundi Biddi throws single track sections in every now and then due to their popularity with riders. Suzy I'm planning on going looking for people at 10am. Which I guess means a theoretical cut off of 6 hours. The won't be any fees unless the race gets to a size where we will have to inform CALM and they want a donation or something, so if you are going to take longer feel free but probably look for a partner (bike or foot) to keep you safer. That's about it for now if anyone would like to help out with water that would be appreciated, I would like a refill stop at 20K. Must get mind back on running a good Rottnest Marathon. I will have some flyers to hand out there too.

Sounds like a great idea and would love to be part of it.
due to the length, be good to get an early date for the event so can adjust life/training accordingly

Hi Warren and other interested 6 inch track runners, The date is set down at 18th of December with a 4am start to beat the heat. Maps can be obtained from CALM (Munda Biddi map 2 Jarrahdale to Nanga) the race will enter the track at Scarp road after climbing Goldmine Hill (1st left hand turn off Del Park Rd from Nth Dandalup heading towards Dwellingup). Draft Start List Dave Nathan cota Julie? Kaiser? Warren? Trent? Ossie? TB? Support Gary- Drinks Naz- $10 Massages
Hopefully we will be able to remove some question marks after Rottnest.

Dave, I'd love to be a part of this if the body cooperates. I'll see how I pull up after IMWA. At any rate I'll be doing a lot of walking.

Definate starter Dave. As it turns out, I got my Mundi Biddi map from the Bicycle Entrepreneur yesterday but got all three. I was thinking of riding it at some stage. Looks like I'll be running (part of) it first! Top idea Dave, I'll see you at Rotto.

Dave, I'm new to this long distance stuff, but I think I might be able to manage it. Put me down as a definite starter. Ian037

Goldmine Hill, Del Park Rd, Scarp Rd, I remember those roads and Goldmine hill, from my Hiking Camp days at school...Lots of gravel....
If I can get some long runs on the board again, I will very likely be a starter. Those two 5 hour hikes on the Bibbulumun this weekend gone, with pack!, might be a good starting point. Will do my best to at least visit. Hope to be there to watch Ironman WA again just like last year too.
